Guided prayer

Lament

Bring the grief honestly

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?

Psalm 13:1

Roughly a third of the psalms are laments. The biblical pattern is not resignation but protest inside covenant: address, complaint, request, and — usually, though not always (Psalm 88) — trust.

  1. Step 1

    Address

Turn toward God rather than away. Lament is spoken to someone.

  2. Step 2

    Complaint

Say the thing plainly. Scripture never asks you to soften it.

  3. Step 3

    Request

Ask for the rescue you actually want.

  4. Step 4

    Trust

If you can, remember one thing that is still true. If you cannot today, that is allowed.
