Guided prayer

ACTS

Adoration · Confession · Thanksgiving · Supplication

Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done.

Matthew 6:9–10

ACTS is a memory aid, not a law. It slows us down so that we begin with who God is rather than with what we need. Adoration reorders the heart; confession clears the air; thanksgiving remembers; supplication asks freely.

  1. Step 1

    Adoration

Praise God for who he is, not only for what he has done. Borrow the language of the psalms if your own words feel thin.

  2. Step 2

    Confession

Confession is honesty in the presence of mercy (1 John 1:9). Name the specific thing rather than a general fog of guilt.

  3. Step 3

    Thanksgiving

Gratitude is memory practiced out loud. It trains us to see grace already given.

  4. Step 4

    Supplication

Ask plainly, for yourself and for others. Jesus invited persistent asking (Luke 11:9).
